What We Do and How We Do It

Island Prostate Centre provides advice, education and support for men and families on the Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands who are dealing with prostate cancer or other prostate health issues, as well as sponsoring local research projects related to prostate cancer treatment and care.

In 2015…

  • The Prostate Centre provided direct patient support to 1200 men and their families.
  • Had over 125 volunteers working in the community (through special events and speaking opportunities).
  • Had our 4 Volunteer Nurse Counsellors donate over 720 hours of their time to support the men that need our help.

Island Prostate Centre is celebrating our 15th anniversary – 15 years of providing Vancouver Island and Gulf Island men and their families with prostate health information, education, counselling and research.   We begin our 15th year with a new name and a new look but we continue to provide the same vital services without government support.

Together, since we have opened our doors, we have . . .

  • provided information and support to over 82,000 men who were either diagnosed with prostate cancer or suffering from a prostate health problem
  • administered over 7000 free PSA tests through our annual Country Grocer Men’s Health Day
  • contributed over $100,000 for immunotherapy research at the BC Cancer Agency and have granted over $150,000 through our Westcoast Motorcycle Ride to Live Research Program.
  • arranged cost free psychological counseling services to help men and their families
  • built FREE community programs such as the Nurse Counselling Program, Peer Support Program, Cancer Recovery Group Exercise Program and outreach events

Right now 1 in every 8 Vancouver Island men is diagnosed with prostate cancer. Island Prostate Centre is working to help beat these odds. Island Prostate Centre connects men and their families with the information they need to make informed decisions about their prostate health – before, during and after a diagnosis. If you or someone you know is dealing with prostate cancer or related health issues, please get in touch with us. Our experts are located throughout Vancouver Island and can help you every step of the way.

We will help you get through this together.
